Robert J Zawadzki
Bio
Robert J Zawadzki got his MSc from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. He performed his graduate studies in Prof. Adolf Fercher’s group at the University of Vienna, Austria working on ophthalmic applications of OCT. After receiving his PhD, he started working on the development of multimodal clinical retinal imaging instruments in Prof. John S. Werner’s Vision Science and Advanced Retinal Imaging (VSRI) Laboratory at UC Davis, CA. This resulted in the construction of clinical Adaptive Optics (AO) based multimodal retinal imaging systems, as well as studies on OCT Angiography (OCTA), Optoretinography (ORG), and many clinical demonstrations of novel retinal imaging systems in eye diseases. In 2012 he started collaborating with Prof. Edward N. Pugh Jr. and became managing director of UC Davis EyePod Small Animal Ocular Imaging Laboratory, where he added to his activities the development of novel mouse retinal imaging systems. This resulted in the construction of Adaptive Optics (AO) based and standard resolution mouse multimodal retinal imaging systems, as well as the development of Temporal Speckle Averaging (TSA) OCT, and dedicated mouse ORG Optoretinography (ORG) paradigm to study animal models of eye diseases. In 2022 together with Prof. Ravi S. Jonnal, he established UC Davis Center for Human Ocular Imaging Research (CHOIR), focusing on the development and translation of novel clinical, functional retinal imaging instrumentation. Dr. Zawadzki is a Professor at the University of California Davis in the Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Science.
