Katarzyna Komar

Bio

Graduated from Gdansk University of Technology (MSc in Technical Physics) and received Ph.D. in Technical Sciences in 2007. During her Ph.D., she was focused on developing laser spectroscopic techniques for cultural heritage paper objects.

Since 2011, she has worked in biomedical imaging of the human eye at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. Currently in ICTER, exploring two-photon vision, i.e., a phenomenon of perception of pulsed near-infrared lasers due to two-photon absorption in visual pigments. She focuses on developing optical systems and methods for psychophysical testing of this newly discovered way of perception of light and integrating these methods into ophthalmic imaging systems.

During both phases of her career, she has participated in nationally and internationally funded research projects. Recently, she led the OPUS National Science Centre project devoted to investigating two-photon vision.
